Best Things to Do in Agadir

The best things to do in Agadir are relaxing on its 10 km beach, riding the cable car to the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella for the view, bargaining at Souk El Had, walking the marina at sunset, and taking easy trips to the surf village of Taghazout, Paradise Valley and Crocoparc. Agadir is not a city of old monuments: the 1960 earthquake destroyed the old town (Wikipedia). What it offers instead is sunshine, a long sandy bay and some of the easiest day trips in Morocco. This list of 15 things to do in Agadir gives 2026 prices where we could confirm them, opening times, a map and a suggested plan. For transport, areas and the weather, see our Agadir travel guide.

Best Things to Do in Agadir City

1. Spend a day on Agadir Beach and the promenade

The crescent-shaped beach runs for more than 10 km, backed by a seafront promenade with cafés, restaurants and hotels (Wikipedia). The bay is relatively sheltered, which makes it one of the best family beaches in Morocco. Walk the promenade north towards the marina in the late afternoon, when locals come out.

Agadir Beach and seafront promenade on the Atlantic coast

For a relaxed beach day, head to the central stretch of Agadir Beach near the seafront promenade. You can walk along the soft sandy shore, enjoy views across the Atlantic and stop at one of the nearby cafés for a drink or a meal. Late afternoon is especially pleasant, when the light softens and the promenade becomes livelier with locals and visitors.

2. Ride the cable car to the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella

The hilltop Kasbah, built in 1572, is the only part of old Agadir still standing, with the "God, Country, King" inscription and the best view of the bay. The cable car from the Tildi bridge covers 1,700 m and 164 m of climb in about six minutes; a non-resident adult return ticket costs about 130 MAD, and since restoration the historic enclosure has its own ticket of about 90 MAD for foreign adults (65 MAD for children 7–17), while the panoramic esplanade is free (Immersi Travel, updated September 2026). Older reports of 60 MAD fares date from the 2022 launch offer (Le360).

Alternatives: a taxi up costs about 30–50 MAD, or walk the 2 km trail in 30–45 minutes. Go at 10:00–11:30 or around sunset, and bring a windbreaker: the hilltop is always windy (Immersi Travel).

3. Bargain at Souk El Had

One of the largest markets in Morocco, with about 6,000 stalls of spices, argan oil, ceramics, leather and fresh produce behind a ring of walls and gates. It is closed on Mondays; Culture Trip gives opening hours of 6:00–20:30, while Hotels.com lists 9:00–21:00. Tuesday to Thursday is calmer than the weekend, and it is one of the best things to do in Agadir on a budget.

4. Walk the marina at sunset

The marina at the north end of the beach has Moorish-style buildings, boats, shops and restaurants (Wikipedia). It is the most polished part of the city, and dinner here after the Kasbah is one of the most pleasant things to do in Agadir in the evening.

5. Visit Medina Polizzi

Built by Italian architect Coco Polizzi to recreate a traditional Berber village, this "new medina" south of the city has craft workshops, mosaics and gardens. Entry is about 40 MAD including a drink, and a return taxi can be negotiated for about 100 MAD (Journal of Nomads). Go early to avoid tour groups.

6. Learn about Amazigh culture at the Heritage Museum

This small museum near Avenue Hassan II shows more than 900 objects, from jewelry, including the famous Massa necklace, to rugs, manuscripts and musical instruments of the Souss region (Barceló). Barceló lists it as open Monday to Saturday, 9:30–17:30, while Hotels.com says it closes on Tuesdays, so check before you go. A much larger new Amazigh heritage museum is under construction in Agadir.

7. See the Mohammed V Mosque

Agadir's main mosque, rebuilt after the earthquake, has a tall minaret in a modern Moroccan style. Non-Muslims cannot go inside, so admire it from the street and avoid prayer times.

8. Relax in a hammam

A steam bath with a black-soap scrub is the perfect end to a day on the beach. Many hotels have their own spas, and it is one of the best things to do in Agadir on a windy day; a full traditional hammam experience starts at about €23 (Hellotickets). Local public hammams are cheaper but usually have separate hours for men and women.

9. Meet the crocodiles at Crocoparc

Opened in 2015 in Drarga, on the edge of Agadir, Crocoparc keeps around 325 Nile crocodiles in 4 hectares of botanical gardens, plus tortoises, iguanas and pythons (Wikipedia). Tickets cost 70 MAD for adults and 40 MAD for children; it opens 10:00–19:00, and until 23:00 from late June to mid-September (Le Jardin aux Etoiles). It is one of the best things to do in Agadir with kids.

10. Take a surf lesson in Taghazout or Tamraght

The coast north of Agadir is one of Africa's best-known surf regions. Beginners learn at Tamraght, Aourir and Banana Beach (Journal of Nomads); a 2.5-hour lesson usually starts at about €32 (Hellotickets). The Souk to Surf shuttle runs daily from Agadir for about 80 MAD per person. Winter is the main surf season, with water rarely below 16°C.

11. Ride a camel or a horse

Short camel rides through the dunes and horse rides along the beach near the Souss River are popular afternoon activities. Group tours with hotel pickup start at about $20 for a 3-hour camel ride and about $36 for a 2-hour horse ride (Hellotickets). Agree on prices beforehand for camel photos at the Kasbah.

12. Swim in the pools of Paradise Valley

This palm-filled gorge in the foothills of the Atlas, 58 km from Agadir, has natural rock pools for swimming. By public transport, take city bus 31, 32 or 33 to Aourir (5 MAD), then a shared taxi (25 MAD); a direct shared taxi costs up to 50 MAD (Journal of Nomads). Go in late winter or spring, when the river is full; avoid cliff jumping in dry months, as there have been accidents.

13. Spot birds in Souss-Massa National Park

Created in 1991, this 33,000-hectare park of wetlands, dunes and coast south of Agadir is a refuge for migrating birds, including the rare northern bald ibis; a guide is required (Journal of Nomads). Half-day guided tours from Agadir are the easiest way to go, and for nature lovers it is one of the most rewarding things to do in Agadir.

14. Go sandboarding in the Timlalin dunes

Golden dunes close to the ocean north of Agadir make a great half-day of sandboarding, often combined with a canyon visit or lunch. The dunes are far from public transport, so book a tour with transfers; prices start at about €67 (Hellotickets).

15. Take a day trip to Essaouira or Marrakech

The relaxed port of Essaouira is about 175 km north along the coast, and Marrakech is about 3 hours by highway. Both work as long day trips, but they are better as overnight stops; see our Essaouira travel guide and Marrakech travel guide.
